Thousands of failed asylum seekers to be returned to Afghanistan after it signed an EU deal to take back its migrants 

  • A new terminal will be built at Kabul airport to handle at least 80,000 people who will start being deported immediately
  • The EU is expected to pledge £888million to support an agreement to readmit Afghan citizens returning
  • The EU will be able to forcibly send back those who ignore requests to leave
  • Tony Bunyan, director of Statewatch, said there is ‘no way’ Afghanistan is safe to return to
